Sermon Notes
  1. It Can Be Complicated
  2. 3 Thoughts About Healthy Relationships
  3. # 1. Healthy Boundaries
  4. Galations 1:10  NIV “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
  5. Galations 6:1-5 NIV “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load.”
  6. #2. Our Soul Health
  7. “The level of our Soul Health determines the health of our relationships. If on a scale of 1 to 10, your soul health is a 5, the healthiest relationship you can have is a 5. The only way to move from a 5 to a 6 is to change. This is why God shines a light on our souls. He wants us to have a healthy soul and to live healthy relationships with Him! and others. No one can have a healthy and deep relationship if they choose to live in darkness.”  (Rob Reimer, River Dwellers, p 123)
  8. Transformation requires bringing our whole self – including our messy emotions – to God and in a safe community of believers, rather than pretending we’re just fine.
  9. #3. DANGER, DANGER
Don’t Surrender Who God Created You To Be
  10. Ephesians 2:10  “For we are God’s WORKMANSHIP, created in Christ Jesus (to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do).”
  11. God Created You To Be YOU
         And IT IS GOOD!!
Discussion Questions
  1. In Galatians 1:10, Paul says:  “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?” Often, when trying to set healthy boundaries, part of the struggle is the fear of disappointing or upsetting other people. In your opinion, what makes it difficult to set healthy boundaries? Have you ever struggled with this?
  2. Galatians 6:2-5 tells us to “carry each other’s burdens,” while also saying that “each person should carry their own load.” What do you think the difference is between: (1) helping someone carry their burdens, and (2) taking responsibility for their burden? In your own personal relationships, what do healthy boundaries look like?
  3. In this message, Peter emphasized how our soul health affects the health of our relationships. In your opinion, what are some signs that your soul may be unhealthy, depleted, or carrying something that needs attention? What do you think it looks like to bring those things honestly to God and trusted friends?
  4. Ephesians 2:10 says that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. In your opinion, what makes it tempting to change who we are or hide part of ourselves in order to gain acceptance from others? What might it look like to remain true to who God created you to be, while still being willing to grow and change?
  5. What is one thing God may be showing you about your own boundaries, soul health, or identity through this message? What is one practical step you can take this week to become healthier in that area?
